I'll trade Swiss chocolate for 150-year-old port wine.
Senhor Antònio looks at us somewhat critically when we arrive at his wine cellar in Peso da Régua. We suspect he was expecting a more distinguished gentleman like himself, but fortunately we have plenty of port wine, which helps us find common ground.
The Vasques de Carvalho family has been producing wine and port for over five generations. Production is intentionally small and exclusive, and the quality is fantastic.
The highlight is the port wine barrels in the cellar, forgotten by the grandfather; the contents are now 150 years old, and if we bring enough chocolate next time, we'll get a bottle…
